Synergy
Synergy is Western Australia's largest energy retailer, responsible for purchasing and retailing Electricity to customers in the South West Interconnected System (SWIS). It serves more than 970,000 industrial, commercial and residential customers.
In an era of climate change and escalating energy cost, Synergy is committed in the Perth Solar City program to deliver products and services such as time of use pricing, In Home Display devices and a demand management product to encourage positive change in your energy consumption. These tools will help increase your awareness of how, and when, you currently use electricity in your home and how it impacts your bill.
During the trial we will be testing and measuring the effectiveness of innovative technology to participants assisting in making positive changes to the way they use electricity.
These products will be available in early 2010.
Western Power
Western Power will lead the Perth Solar City consortium and will manage the day to day operations of the program.
Western Power is an energy solutions business, responsible for the transmission and distribution of electricity in the south west of WA, including Perth.
As Perth and the South West grows, so too does the demand for electricity. Power consumption in Western Australia has increased by an average of five per cent per year over the last decade, putting enormous strain on the energy network. This is why sustainable energy solutions, like Perth Solar City are important.
Western Power will deliver a range of technical solutions to help households better understand and manage their energy use.
These solutions include smart meters, the clever devices which measure your power use and provide real time information allowing you to better control your energy usage and costs.
Smart meters can allow consumers to better manage their energy consumption through the use of energy display devices in the home, communication to selected appliances and the ability to take advantage of electricity tariffs that better suit your individual needs.
Western Power will identify specific locations within Perth's Eastern region to trial this technology. More information will be available in early 2010.

To support Perth Solar City, Prospero productions will develop ‘Eco Idol'. This documentary is intended to find two fresh, motivated and well-informed young people who are able to promote the cause of solar energy and issues of the environment. They will be aspiring, articulate, capable and have the potential qualities of established media eco coaches such as Tanya Ha. The competition will be a journey to find two high school students who as well as being ‘eco warriors' at heart, can also present well and maybe even sing and dance a bit too!
Eco Idol will tap into the youthful aspirations of modern culture, engage with the fun of celebrity and use new media mechanisms, utilize social networking and have a dedicated website to enable short filmed auditions to be posted as entries.
